How to Mix Western + Prep

By : haley 0 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about style lately. What makes one outfit more unique over another? What is so appealing about style that keeps us coming back to reading the same blogs time and time again? We’re essentially just pairing tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories together. How could that not get old? My inclination is that it has to do with opposites. Pairing rustic with romantic. Tom boy with girly. It’s the exact reason people go crazy for a slip dress paired with a moto jacket. For me, it’s been about mixing western and prep. In college, I never understood my style. I’d be wearing a vintage wool military blazer to my favorite unrefined bar on Saturday night. All the other chicks would be wearing tube tops and aztec print dresses. I wanted to dress like the rest of the girls, because I thought this what guys liked. I could never bring myself to do it though. My friend and I would go out and finally look down at our outfits and be like “wtf, we look like CEO’s?!” I wouldn’t change it though. I have a soft spot for that collegiate european prep look. But doing a full on prep look is too much for me. Let’s add some ripped denim, western belt and a deep dive turtleneck. My tip would be to go for western accessories, boots, hats, belt and jewelry. Let the preppy side lead with the larger piece, blazer and hairdo. Add a strappy bra to keep them guessing. People HATE when they can’t put you in a box. This is why my style is always changing. Try and define me, I dare you.
