You know that feeling when you’re on the climb up a rollercoaster, that’s what it felt like as my tiny white sedan creeped up the massive rolling hills of Twin Peaks. Upon reaching the top, we stumbled upon this beautiful mansion. We all sort of gasped when we saw it. We had been driving and walking around in different neighborhoods searching for “The Perfect Spot”. We all knew this was the one when our eyes landed on it. Much to our liking it had white walls, geometric details and plants of all sorts.
Of course, there were several text messages and pictures exchanged between Vanessa and I myself before the trip ensued. We had to coordinate one “romantic” look simply because that’s our MO.
During a lonely Sunday a few weeks back, I dragged 8 brown bags of old clothing from my trunk into the local buy, sell, trade shop. I wasn’t expecting much as I’d be lugging these bags from one location to the next desperately seeking some validation or dollars for these colorful bags of loot. Having time to kill, as the young lady rummaged through my bags I begin to half ass-ely push around the hangers on the racks. My normal head space is telling me “you’re not going to find anything here, why are you even wasting your time?”
But on this day, the universe had other other things in store for me. Nearly on the last rack in the very back of the building, thinking to myself I should be browsing an online favorite instead, like Asos. My fingers grazed this burnt sienna scrappy number. I pulled it off the rack, to my surprise I kept looking for their to be something wrong with it. Missing a strap,a button, is there a rip? No imperfections stood out, in all my glory I headed to the fitting room. Slipped out of my forever boring shorts and a tee. The silk interior lining felt right. The V neck strap and backless wonder were all too much to encapsulate me. I quickly snapped a mirror pic and sent to my friend, saying “Am I at Reformation?! I can’t believe this baby is only $8!”
It’s not often that I can pulled back into the land of thrift, back I will bask in this unique moment.
